Laser products dedicated to the defence industry showcased at MSPO 2025
The Polish branch, IPG Photonics LLC, founded in 2014 and located in Gliwice, has undergone an impressive transformation, evolving from a small office into a fully fledged production facility that produces key components for laser sources. This facility also serves as a sales and service support centre for Central and Eastern Europe, offering access to an advanced applications laboratory where the latest laser technologies are tested.
The plant operates to the highest quality standards, as confirmed by ISO 9001:2015 certificates. IPG products meet all applicable European Union standards, making them a reliable choice in demanding industrial environments.
By combining local innovation with global expertise, IPG fibre lasers are gaining recognition as the preferred solution in modern manufacturing processes – where precision, efficiency, and scalability are key.
YLS-SM Series
High-Performance Single-Mode Fibre Lasers for Military and Industrial Applications
The YLS-SM series comprises single-mode ytterbium-doped CW fibre lasers offering output powers up to 20 kW while maintaining excellent beam quality. These devices allow dynamic power modulation from 5% to full power at frequencies up to 10 kHz, without affecting divergence or beam profile thus ensures high precision and stability of operation in the most demanding applications.
YLS-SM fibre lasers are housed in compact, sealed and air-conditioned housings, ensuring reliable operation in harsh environmental conditions. These systems can be controlled via digital, analogue, or IPG LaserNet software, with the possibility of integration with DeviceNet, Profibus, and Ethernet systems.
Main advantages:
- Single-mode beam quality ensures high machining precision
- Output power up to 20 kW, enabling the implementation of processes requiring high energy density
- High energy efficiency and maintenance-free operation
- Plug-in & Play modular design for easy integration with industrial and military systems
- Resistance to environmental conditions thanks to a sealed and air-conditioned housing
- Flexible control and configuration options to suit different operating environments
Defence applications:
- Precision cutting and machining of highly reflective metals used in the production of electronic components, ballistic shields, and load-bearing structures
- Welding of structural components in military vehicles, weapon systems, and unmanned platforms
- Drilling micro-holes in specialised materials used in optoelectronic systems, sensors and communication devices
- Structuring surfaces to provide functional properties such as reducing radar signature or improving adhesion properties
- Manufacturing components using 3D printing, supporting rapid prototyping and production of spare parts in the field
YAR-SM & YAR-SM-LP
Narrowband Fibre Laser Amplifiers
Fibre amplifiers offer output power up to 1.5 kW in the 1030–1070 nm wavelength range. These devices provide high signal stability and quality in a compact, durable rack-mount housing, with the ability to customise parameters to suit individual needs.
Options include wavelength selection, polarisation (linear or random), power level, and output configuration. These amplifiers are used in beam combining, detection and remote energy transmission systems.
Defence applications:
- Spectral beam combining in high-power systems
- Signal amplification in detection and recognition systems
- Contactless energy transmission (power beaming) to mobile and unmanned devices
Benefits:
- Narrow emission line width
- Stable operation in demanding conditions
- Flexible configuration and integration with military systems
- Compact, durable design
YLR-AM Series - Dual-Mode Fibre Lasers
Fibre lasers from the series YLR-AM combine the functionality of two operating modes – single-mode and multi-mode – in one compact device. With adjustable mode technology, it is possible to quickly switch between spot sizes (<50 μm) without the need for external optical systems. The device operates at a 1070 nm wavelength, offering output power of up to 1 kW in single-mode and up to 5 kW in multimode.
High beam quality (M² = 1.3 for single mode) and low BPP (< 2.4 mm·mrad for multimode) ensure precise and efficient material processing. The diameters of the optical fibre cores are respectively 14 μm (single-mode) and 40 μm (multi-mode), and the modulation frequency reaches 50 kHz, which enables dynamic process control.
Applications in the defence industry:
- 3D printing of metal components with various geometries
- Welding of structural elements made of copper and highly reflective materials
- Production of spare parts in the field
- Applications requiring fast, real-time beam parameter switching
Benefits:
- Increased efficiency – up to 5× faster printing thanks to instant spot size change
- Reliability – no mechanical components, resistant to vibrations and contamination
- Flexibility – complete control over power and fluence for both modes
- Efficient copper processing – high power density enables effective welding and deposition without the need for green lasers
