– Last year, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a renewed strategic partnership between our two countries. Today’s agreement can be seen as an important step towards translating the decisions taken by both governments into tangible economic cooperation. At the same time, the memorandum signals closer bilateral ties between Poland’s development bank and Canada’s export credit agency – an important development for exporters and investors from both countries – said Prof. Marta Postuła, PhD, DSc, First Vice-President of the Management Board of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.

Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego already supports Polish businesses across 91 international markets, including Canada. Since the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) came into force in 2017, trade between Canada and Poland has grown to USD 4.6 billion (2024). Poland has thus become Canada’s largest economic partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego is Poland’s development bank, supporting the country’s sustainable economic and social development. It is the only institution of its kind in Poland. Operating for more than 100 years, BGK finances investment in infrastructure, housing and entrepreneurship. It also supports strategic initiatives, including national security and the energy transition. The bank works with both the public and private sectors, mobilising capital to finance projects addressing the country’s key challenges. It also plays an important role in implementing EU funds and Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Export Development Canada is Canada’s export credit agency and a Crown corporation owned by the Government of Canada. Its mission is to support Canadian companies in expanding their international operations through financing, insurance, guarantees, market intelligence and business connections.

The agreement was signed during the largest edition in the history of the International Defence Industry Exhibition MSPO. From 8 to 11 September 2026, 1,209 companies from 43 countries are showcasing their products and capabilities at Targi Kielce, with thousands of visitors from around the world expected to attend, including representatives of 60 official foreign delegations. The exhibition spans 11 halls as well as the outdoor exhibition area.

This year’s MSPO is also the first event to make use of Targi Kielce’s new exhibition hall, offering a total floor area of 18,500 sq m. The record scale of the Exhibition, together with the agreements being signed in Kielce, further underlines MSPO’s importance as one of the key meeting places for the defence industry, armed forces, government institutions and international partners.
