Advanced infrared optics at MSPO. MKS Ophir presents the latest solutions

27 July 2026
The modern battlefield demands information dominance. Observation systems play a decisive role, enabling the detection, identification, and tracking of threats regardless of weather conditions or time of day. It is precisely these high-performance solutions that MKS Ophir IR Optics—a global leader in infrared optics and thermal imaging systems—will present during the International Defence Industry Exhibition.

For over five decades, Ophir has engineered technologies deployed in observation systems across land, naval, and airborne platforms.  The company’s cutting-edge solutions are also utilized in border security, ISR reconnaissance missions, critical infrastructure protection, and Counter-UAS (unmanned aerial systems) platforms.  Visitors to this year’s MSPO stand will witness live demonstrations showcasing the raw performance of thermal imaging cameras and state-of-the-art optical assemblies operating across multiple infrared bands.

A flagship highlight will be the Ophir KAMU™—a new family of long-range MWIR thermal imaging cameras.  The system pairs a high-definition SXGA detector with advanced image processing and line-of-sight stabilization, delivering pinpoint target detection and tracking over extreme ranges.  The design is optimised for seamless integration into diverse platforms and surveillance networks.

The company will also showcase advanced long-range SWIR lenses.  Capable of detecting vehicle-sized targets at ranges exceeding 35 kilometres, this solution directly meets the requirements of modern reconnaissance and surveillance platforms.

Further additions to the line-up include the Germanium-Less LWIR lens family, explicitly developed to reduce reliance on germanium—a strategic raw material for the optics industry.  This innovation counters critical supply chain vulnerabilities while maintaining superior imaging performance and ensuring long-term product availability for ongoing defence programmes.

The MKS Ophir stand will also feature the latest additions to the SupIR lens family, engineered to pair seamlessly with high-resolution SXGA detectors.  These solutions deliver exceptional image quality, expansive optical zoom ranges, and object detection capabilities spanning from over 8 to an impressive 17 kilometres, all within compact form factors.  Completing the display will be lightweight folded optics designed for airborne platforms alongside specialised optical solutions tailored for high-power laser systems.
