Description
Łukasiewicz – Automotive Industry Institue

Łukasiewicz – PIMOT is one of Poland’s leading research and development centres specialising in transport technologies, safety, and solutions for the defence sector. The Institute combines scientific, engineering, and research expertise, supporting businesses and public institutions in the development, testing, and implementation of advanced technologies.

An important area of Łukasiewicz-PIMOT’s activity is defence and security. The Institute conducts research and development work on special-purpose vehicles, including military and police vehicles as well as vehicles intended for civil defence applications. The scope of activities includes functional, strength, durability, and road testing, enabling the assessment of vehicle performance under conditions similar to real operational use. Testing also covers off-road capabilities, traction and dynamic properties, stability, resistance to vibration and shock, towing capacity, and the ability to operate with damaged tyres.

The Institute has specialised infrastructure and equipment enabling advanced testing of vehicles and their equipment. In the field of passive safety, Łukasiewicz-PIMOT conducts dynamic and quasi-static strength tests, as well as measurements using data acquisition systems, advanced measurement facilities, and high-speed cameras.

The Institute’s expertise also covers transport automation and autonomy, ADAS systems, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), braking and steering systems, vehicle durability and reliability, vehicle and component design, electromobility, and REESS traction batteries. PIMOT also conducts testing and carries out vehicle, system, and component type-approval and certification processes in accordance with national and international requirements.

An important area of development is future-oriented technology, including autonomous vehicles, electric powertrains, energy storage systems, and solutions aimed at increasing the safety and reliability of transport systems. By combining research, development, engineering, and certification activities, Łukasiewicz-PIMOT supports Polish industry in developing and implementing innovative products that address the needs of both the civilian and defence markets.

Łukasiewicz-PIMOT is part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, which brings together 22 research institutes and approximately 4,500 scientists and engineers.
