Description
For military and defence applications, Sealed Air provides packaging systems designed to protect mission critical equipment from damage, shock and failure. Our solutions are engineered to meet demanding requirements, helping ensure operational readiness and continuity in even the most challenging environments. By combining advanced material science with precision design, we enable secure transport, storage and deployment of high-value assets.
Sustainability remains at the core of our approach. Sealed Air is committed to reducing environmental impact through packaging solutions that prioritise reduction, reuse and recyclability. Ethafoam® products, made from non crosslinked polyethylene foam, are fully recyclable within closed-loop systems and can be reused multiple times without compromising performance. Our global Packaging Design Centres work closely with customers to develop optimised packaging that minimises material use while maintaining protection, helping reduce waste, lower costs and improve efficiency.
Our Five-Star Fabrication Network strengthens our military offering by bringing together specialised partners capable of delivering precision-engineered foam components that meet strict dimensional tolerances and quality standards. With access to Ethafoam® M Series materials and advanced fabrication expertise, these partners ensure consistently high protection for complex applications.
Sealed Air’s extruded polyethylene foam solutions provide high-performance cushioning, delivering superior protection with reduced material usage compared to alternative systems. This helps lower packaging and shipping costs while improving handling and storage efficiency. The material’s resilience allows quick recovery from repeated impacts, making it ideal for returnable packaging systems, while its clean appearance enhances presentation and reinforces product value.
Supported by a global manufacturing network of 145 facilities serving 175 countries, Sealed Air offers a proven track record of performance, quality and reliability. We design and deliver packaging solutions that meet the highest standards of protection, efficiency and sustainability, ensuring critical equipment arrives safely and performs when it matters most.

Products
Ethafoam® foams are designed to meet the stringent
AA-59136 CID specification (previously PPP-1752D
specification) and the less than 10% LEL (Lower
Explosion Limit) requirement. Additionally, Ethafoam®
M-Series foams are specified in the Container Design
and Retrieval Systems (CDRS) of the U.S. Department
of Defence.
LOWERING THE “LOWER EXPLOSION LIMIT”
Military applications which contain explosives require
extra precaution, therefore the military specifies a
Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) of less than 10%.
The Ethafoam® M-Series grade products were
designed to specifically address the less than 10%
LEL (Lower Explosion Limit) of residual blowing
agents required for enclosed military applications.
Certification is provided with each shipment of
Ethafoam® M-Series products.
Sealed Air utilizes a proprietary process which
enables Ethafoam® M-Series foams to meet the less
than 10% LEL requirement. These processing steps
not only speed up the evacuation of the blowing
agent, but also provide excellent dimensional stability
throughout the life of the product.

Whisper® sound absorption panels use a networked
honeycomb like structure to absorb sound, providing unique
properties over conventional fibre, polyester and open cell
foams.
WATER RESISTANT
The acoustic properties of Whisper® are maintained
following exposure to water & moisture. Whisper® passes
the rigorous EN 12088 28-day condensing humidity test. In a
simulated ‘one in 50-year storm’ including water at 3 l/min
and wind speeds up to 16 m/sec, Whisper® retains 100% of
its acoustic performance after draining, with no need for a
water barrier, protective film, or perforated metal facing.
STRONG STRUCTURE
With its semi-rigid self-supporting structure, Whisper®
Acoustic Panels are easy to cut and easy to install on site
LIGHT WEIGHT
Whisper® Acoustic Panels are easy to handle with a weight
of less than 1.5 kilograms per square metre at 50mm,
providing sustainable use of raw material inputs.
FIRE RETARDANT
Whisper® FR foam panels achieved
EN 13501 Class B S1 D0 at 20-30mm
EN 13501 Class B S2 D0 at 40-50mm
DIN 4102 Class B1;
Fire testing data is available for rail, mass transit, marine and
automotive.
The BUBBLE WRAP® brand Flex inflatable cushioning
system produces materials at speeds up to 27m per minute.
Maximum and fast inflation of packaging material with
the build in compressor makes manufacturing more
productive, operators more efficient and delivers
more products out the door on time. Throughput is
increased as well thanks to long film rolls.
HIGH RELIABILITY
Delays in production can slow down productivity. Limit the potential for throughput loss with the
Flex inflatable cushioning system. Components are manufactured with high performance materials and
coatings for long life system reliability.
SYSTEM ACCESSORIES FOR EVERY CONFIGURATION
The Flex is supported by a range of accessories to
increase the throughput including:
System stand and roll winder, bins and dispensers for decentralised packaging environments
Instasheeter™ converting system
Jet Stream Fit® delivery system
INCREASED CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
Attractive, protective, intuitive packages that can be
readily reused and are recycle-ready*.
Multiple film patterns and bubble sizes designed for
the right size solution, reducing material usage and
improving the packaging process.
