Description
Environmental Instruments Canada Inc. (EIC) designs, manufactures, and services radiation detection instrumentation from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Founded in 1998, our team has spent nearly three decades developing alpha, beta gamma and neutron detection technology, including instrumentation used in uranium mining, radon mitigation, other industries and, increasingly, defence and security applications.

Our unmanned systems line was developed with support from Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) and the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and comprises several lightweight payloads — covering gamma dose-rate mapping, contamination and plume detection, neutron search, and isotope identification — that integrate with UAVs and UGVs, letting teams characterize a contaminated area without entering it.

For personnel on the ground, the CT008-F contamination detector measures alpha, beta, and gamma from natural background up to post-incident levels (up to 10 Sv/h) in one rugged, pocket-sized instrument. With single-button operation, standard AAA batteries, and the GammaGuard smartphone app that interprets readings for non-technical users and can log GPS-stamped data, it is well suited to civil defence deployment at scale — including by responders and volunteers with limited radiation training.
