Description
One of the company’s key areas of development is the creation of systems that enhance the resilience of buildings and infrastructure to exceptional loads. BARWA SYSTEM has developed MEPS – the Modular Explosion Protection System – a modular solution designed to protect façades, building partitions and technical infrastructure against the effects of blast waves generated by explosions. Specially engineered panels absorb and dissipate blast energy, reducing its impact on the protected structure.
MEPS can be used both in new-build projects and in the modernisation of existing buildings. Its modular design allows the system to be applied as a façade element, protective shield, partition, free-standing barrier or protection for mobile infrastructure, including technical, command, communications, energy, storage and logistics containers.
MEPS is also available in the MEPS-LB variant, combining blast protection with ballistic protection. An integral part of the solution is a layer made of certified ballistic materials, complemented by a purpose-designed supporting structure and protective window systems, together forming a coherent protection system for façades and infrastructure.
The solutions incorporate advanced materials, including metal foams, which absorb energy and may also reduce and mask the thermal signature of protected assets.
The product range is complemented by permanent architectural anti-drone protection systems made of metal mesh and supporting structures. These solutions are designed to provide physical protection for roofs, courtyards, technical equipment and energy, industrial and military infrastructure.
BARWA SYSTEM solutions are dual-use and may therefore be applied in both civilian facilities and the security and defence sectors. Potential applications include public administration buildings, airports, railway stations, data centres, energy facilities, industrial plants, military sites and critical infrastructure.
BARWA SYSTEM combines engineering expertise, manufacturing experience and design flexibility to create solutions that integrate security, functionality and the aesthetics of contemporary architecture.

The confirmed blast resistance of the MEPS technology is EXR2 in accordance with PN-EN 13123-2:2004, verified in a field test conducted according to PN-EN 13124-2:2004, using a 3 kg TNT charge at a stand-off distance of 3 m. The shutter’s ballistic protection is provided by armour steel plate rated FB3 in accordance with PN-EN 1522, corresponding to the threat posed by .357 Magnum ammunition. The type and thickness of the armour plate can be selected according to the required protection level. The system is available in manual and automatic versions.
The protective shutter system incorporates MEPS technology, in which an aluminium foam core enhances the panel’s ability to absorb and dissipate energy while maintaining a low overall weight. The materials used provide a reaction-to-fire classification of A2-s1,d0. When closed, the shutter also form
The base system has been tested to the EXR2 class in accordance with PN-EN 13123-2 and PN-EN 13124-2, using a 3 kg TNT charge at a stand-off distance of 3 m. The approximate panel weight is 22 kg/m², while the complete system, including the supporting substructure, weighs approximately 45 kg/m². Typical installation stand-off: approximately 300 mm; panel thickness: approximately 40 mm. Reaction-to-fire classification: A2-s1,d0.
Its modular design enables the construction of façade protection systems, protective shutters, freestanding barriers and mobile solutions. Dimensions, colour scheme, fixing method and protection level can be configured according to the building requ
