Ten Years of Electric Mobility, New Technologies and Passenger Expectations. IGKM Conference Kicks Off Industry Meetings Ahead of TRANSEXPO 2026

13 October 2026
How have electric buses performed in Polish cities over the past decade? Do modern driver assistance systems genuinely make drivers’ jobs easier? What are passengers looking for in a bus? These are the key questions being explored at the Technical Conference of the Polish Chamber of Urban Transport (IGKM), taking place in Kielce on 13 October.

Organised by IGKM’s Bus Fleet Commission, the Technical Conference traditionally provides an expert-led introduction to TRANSEXPO. More than 370 people are attending, including representatives of public transport operators, manufacturers, technology suppliers and experts involved in the development of public transport. Expo Kielce is co-organising the conference, while IGKM has been a long-standing co-organiser of TRANSEXPO.

Ten Years of Electric Buses – Time to Draw Practical Conclusions

One of the main topics at this year’s conference is a review of a decade of electric bus operations in Poland. Participants are examining operators’ experiences, highlighting both the solutions that have proved effective in day-to-day service and the challenges encountered when using zero-emission vehicles.

“This is a forum for exchanging experience and discussing the issues facing the industry. We also want to talk about current concerns, including problems with air conditioning,” says Marcin Żabicki, IGKM’s Director of Development.

Driver assistance systems and onboard electronics are also high on the agenda. Experts are considering whether increasingly sophisticated technologies genuinely improve safety and working conditions for bus drivers, or whether, in some situations, they can become an additional burden.

The Modern Bus Through the Passenger’s Eyes

The conference programme also addresses passenger expectations. Which features and amenities are most in demand today? What determines passenger comfort and how people perceive public transport? The answers matter to both vehicle manufacturers and public transport operators.

Participants will also discuss historic buses and their value to transport companies and public transport authorities. This topic has a special place at TRANSEXPO, where the 6th Exhibition of Historic Buses, organised by IGKM, will take place.

“And on Wednesday, 14 October, at 10 am, we will kick off TRANSEXPO with the opening of the 6th Exhibition of Historic Buses. Visitors will be able to see how urban public transport has changed, from the old, cumbersome buses to today’s state-of-the-art vehicles, which bear little resemblance to those of several decades ago,” Żabicki added, inviting visitors to the trade show and exhibition.

TRANSEXPO 2026 Set to Break Records!

The IGKM conference marks the start of a three-day gathering of the public transport industry in Kielce. The 18th edition of TRANSEXPO will take place at Expo Kielce from 14 to 16 October and is set to be a record-breaking event.

A total of 129 companies will present their products and services across 10,333 square metres of exhibition space, with visitors able to see 75 vehicles representing 15 bus brands. Highlights will include the Polish premiere of the Solaris Urbino 10.5 electric, presentations of cutting-edge transport technologies, the 6th Exhibition of Historic Buses featuring a 1938 Chevrolet, and the Polish Professional Bus Drivers’ Championship Final.
