Description
“Let’s Paint Catholicism Again” is a long-term artistic and intellectual project whose aim is to renew contemporary sacred art and restore high-quality religious painting to the space of the Church. The initiative was established by the Saint Nicholas Foundation, the Teologia Polityczna community, and the Saint John Paul II Institute of Culture at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. The project was conceived by philosopher and publicist Dariusz Karłowicz.

The project seeks to create new artistic interpretations of the most important Christian themes by contemporary Polish artists. Each edition is devoted to a different biblical motif or mystery of faith — so far including paintings of Divine Mercy, the Annunciation, the Visitation, and the Nativity. Artists work in dialogue with theologians, philosophers, and art historians, searching for a visual language capable of speaking to contemporary audiences while remaining deeply rooted in the Christian tradition.

“Let’s Paint Catholicism Again” is not only a cycle of exhibitions, but also an attempt to rebuild artistic patronage and restore sacred art to an important place within culture. The organizers emphasize that Christianity has developed through art for centuries, and that the contemporary Church needs new works capable of expressing the truths of faith in the language of our times. The project was conceived as a long-term undertaking bringing together artistic, academic, and ecclesiastical communities around the idea of renewing Christian culture. Pope Leo XVI gave the project his blessing and encouraged the organizers to “renew culture in a Christian spirit.”
