This serves as the proof that this active form pastime, though in different variations has been known for a few thousand years. The Badminton House owned by the VIII duke of Beaufort has given its name to the sport; as early as 1870 it was the venue for the first public presentation of the game in which a shuttlecock made of cork and feathers was used.

Badminton stated its career at the Summer Olympic Games in 1988 in Seoul where it was a demonstration game. Badminton had soon become fashionable and thus it became the official Summer Olympic sport in 1992 in Barcelona.
