Monumental bells and the magic of sound. Opening of Sławomir Mick's exhibition at Targi Kielce
This story is about second chances—both for forgotten metal forms and ideas that took on sculptural form. Sławomir Micek, an artist associated with Kielce for years, found seven huge bells in a scrapyard—industrial fragments of old crushers. Instead of melting them down, he chose to give them new life. This is how five compositions were born; now, these can be admired at Targi Kielce.
– The first bell I rang sounded for three minutes; that's when I knew I had stumbled upon something absolutely unique – the artist recalls. This experience triggered an entire creative process – from revisiting the scrapyard to creating five sculptural installations, each with its story.
A spectacle of sound, light and symbolism
The exhibition opening, which will take place on 26 April will include not only a presentation of sculptures, but also a spectacular performance with a narrator, music and bell ringers assigned to each installation. The sculptures will also be accompanied by an exhibition of paintings by Professor Małgorzata Bielecka, whose large-format paintings will form the background of the event.
The installations cover a variety of topics, from success and spirituality, through personal memories, to social and cultural symbols. You will find The Franciscan Bell, dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi and Pope Francis, The Bell of Notre Dame – with fragments of burnt wood referring to the tragic fire of the Paris cathedral, and Bell of Recovery, inspired by the sound of winning the fight against cancer. The most colourful and joyful installation is Carnival in Venice – three bells surrounded by eleven Harlequin figures.
– These works are more than just sculptures. These are stories, emotions and deep spirituality – says Sławomir Micek. – Every composition has its source – personal, sometimes universal, and always true.
Art that stays for a long time
The President of Targi Kielce, Andrzej Mochoń, emphasises the long-term cooperation with the artist, recalling, among other things, the sculpture Galileo prepared on the occasion of the 25th anniversary, Column of Time, and also In Chariots—currently decorating the space in front of the entrance to the exhibition centre.
– Sławomir Micek is not only a sculptor, but also the author of many of our statuettes and fair medals – adds the president. – His work is in line with the DNA of Targi Kielce – it combines art, technology and emotions.
The exhibition can be admired during the "Home, Garden and You" fair, and during SacroExpo, which will take place from 2 to 4 June.
