Medal of the Pontifical Council for Culture - recognition for the best of the best

17 march 2021
"Per Artem ad Deum" Gala Awarding Ceremony accompanies the International Exhibition of Church Construction, Church Fittings and Furnishings and Religious Art SACROEXPO. This outstanding accolade has been presented in recognition of the projects contributing to the culture and arts development. Until now, 29 outstanding artists have been honoured

The international distinction - the Medal of the Pontifical Council for Culture Per Artem Ad Deum is of great importance not only for the development of culture and art but also Laureates' personal life. Paweł Łukaszewski, one of last year's laureates of the Medal - a composer, conductor and teacher, one of the most outstanding representatives of contemporary spiritual music, emphasises how exceptional the distinction is.

What did it mean for you to receive the Per Artem Ad Deum award at Targi Kielce?

I find this a great recognition. This is also te opportunity to join the fellowship of exceptional people, because artists such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Wojciech Kilar or Ennio Morricone have received the distinction, too. This Medal also means a commitment; I need to keep my work's appropriate level, make my composition flow from within, from the bottom of the heart and mind, to make it the message of living faith.

Is this an important distinction for you as a professional musician?

This is the recognition of my work, which is almost entirely devoted to sacred music. I really appreciate this award also because I received it from the hands of the Apostolic Nuncio Salvatore Pennacchio. The Medal was awarded by the Pontifical Council for Culture, so I can think that it is a great recognition on the part of the Church.

To what extent do you think the Per Artem Ad Deum medal contributes to the promotion of spiritual and religious culture and art?

This award is unique for all creators, artists who are into the broadly defined sacred art: visual artists, writers, directors and composers. Every effort aimed at promoting religion and spirit related creativity should be appreciated and disseminated.

Do you think the Per Artem Ad Deum award - "Through Art to God" allows you to bring people closer to God?

I would rather say that art, music, stained glass, beautiful paintings, wonderful texts or photos may serve this purpose. We can get closer to God through a work of art. We may engage better in prayer. Art allows us to establish better contact with Him and increases our faith.

The Kielce exhibition and congress centre invites you to the gala ceremony - the medals will be presented to the outstanding artists at the 22nd SACROEXPO.
