Łukasiewicz – Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals has been constructing, developing and modernizing Polish non-ferrous industry for over 70 years. In the scope of activities undertaken in Łukasiewicz - IMN there are, among others research projects also for defence and security area focused on: technology of thermal and special batteries; hybrid power source for special vehicles, power source for manned and unmanned aircraft, autonomous unmanned platforms, security systems and smart weapons, light modular armor, modified heavy alloys for armor-piercing shells; innovative materials for accumulative inserts; 3D printing for armament. Besides defense and security projects, researchers at Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals take on challenges related to treatment of non-ferrous metal ores and other mineral raw materials, pyro- and hydrometallurgical methods of recovering metals from ores and concentrates, waste management, material engineering, alloy and metal treatment, environmental protection, metal chemistry, energy storage and e-mobility.
