Description
PIAP Space is a Polish company established in 2017 as a government-backed spin-off of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements (Ł-PIAP). The company has become an EU leader in space robotic systems for orbital and planetary applications.
PIAP Space has developed advanced robotic subsystems such as the TITAN robotic arm for ESA and various end-effectors, including grippers for In-Orbit Servicing. Among them, the LARIS gripper, created under the EROSS+ project for capturing the Launch Adapter Ring of satellites, is currently one of the most advanced subsystems in Europe. The company acts as a prime contractor for multiple ESA projects in space robotics, including TITAN (robotic arm for in-orbit servicing, TRL 5/6), MANUS (manipulator breadboard for the ARGONAUT lunar mission), INORT (feasibility study and roadmap for in-orbit refuelling), and RAVEN (study for a national Orbital Transfer Vehicle).
PIAP Space benefits from the infrastructure of the Ł-PIAP Institute, including machining and AIT facilities with CNC-controlled mills and lathes, as well as vibration test facilities. The company cooperates with Spacive Sp. z o.o., specializing in thermal design and tests, with access to an ISO 7 cleanroom and Thermal Vacuum Chamber. Its test stands include a robotic arm with 7 DoF, load capacity of 6 kg and range of 1.5 m. The laboratories are equipped with power supplies, oscilloscopes, electronic testers, EMI test equipment, soldering stations, and tools for harness and wiring production.
In addition, PIAP Space’s engineering laboratories allow programming of microcontrollers and use of software supporting CI/CD frameworks. This infrastructure, combined with strong R&D capabilities, enables the company to design, test and deliver cutting-edge robotics and MGSE solutions for European and international space missions.
