Description
Brolis semiconductors UAB was established in 2011 by the Vizbaras brothers – Augustinas, Kristijonas and Dominykas (“BROLIS” means “Brother” in Lithuanian) – as a spin-off from the elite German Walter Schottky Institute. In 2012 the company attracted initial venture capital (VC) funding and built its state-of-the-art facility in Vilnius, Lithuania. In 2015 BROLIS attracted new investments from major solid-state manufacturers to replace the VC funding and help the company become a vertically integrated manufacturer. The buy-out of shares from the VC fund was successfully completed in 2017.
BROLIS primarily engages in creating some of the world’s finest infrared laser products, ranging from near infrared to mid-infrared. BROLIS’ unique area of specialisation and its epitaxy facility (one of the largest in the world) for the production of GaSb-based mid-infrared optoelectronics have helped the company develop numerous devices that offer record-breaking performance on the largest industrial GaSb substrate platform on today’s market. BROLIS’ key technology encompasses in-house molecular beam epitaxy of advanced III-V materials, chip design, hybrid integration of III-V components with silicon photonics, advanced packaging and micro-optics, as well as full electro-optical system design for the most advanced applications.
BROLIS has all the required R&D and qualification infrastructure in-house, as well as all the necessary tools, skills and experience to develop the most advanced electro-optical (EO) and laser systems for defence and security applications, ranging from conventional visible aiming markers and advanced clip-on SWIR systems to beyond state-of-the-art high-power mid-infrared lasers required for directional infrared countermeasure (DIRCM) systems. Deep expertise in semiconductor technology and close cooperation with end-users allow BROLIS to develop next-generation defence systems which can fulfil the requirements of even the most demanding missions around the globe. BROLIS controls most of the system development process, allowing for quick adaptation to customer requirements and guaranteeing the highest possible quality.
BROLIS’ wealth of experience, highly skilled engineers and close cooperation with military and law enforcement allow for the development of modern defence systems ranging from latest-generation night vision devices to short-wave infrared (SWIR) and long-wave infrared (LWIR) systems. BROLIS’ high engineering capabilities, continuous development efforts and desire for innovation allow the company to offer the most advanced systems, including the world’s first highly successful clip-on SWIR weapon sight system.
