Our devices, based primarily on isotope and X-ray measurement technologies, are used to measure thickness, basis weight, and density in the plastics, composites, and other industries.

Our flagship product is the PI-SCANPRO Scanner/Traverse system; depending on specific production needs, the measurement source employed can be a radioisotope, X-ray tube, laser, inductive sensor, or another type of source.
The PI-SCANPRO Scanner/Traverse operates on-line in either scanning or point-measurement mode, monitoring materials such as PS or PET film webs.

The use of radioisotopes in industry enhances efficiency, saves raw materials, helps avoid end-customer complaints, and enables faster operator response to out-of-tolerance production. In short, the operating principle of industrial isotope-based control and measurement devices relies on the phenomenon of ionizing radiation absorption—specifically, the loss of radiation intensity as it passes through the material being tested.

The extent of this phenomenon is measured by a detector positioned in a fixed geometric relationship to the source (or sources) on the opposite side of the material. These measurement devices may utilize a single radiation source (in scanning or traverse systems) or multiple sources (for point measurement), or they may rely on the natural radiation emitted by the material itself. The use of isotope-based monitoring and measurement devices in industry is safe for both the user and the material being measured; the radiation does not alter the material's physicochemical structure. PI-SCANPRO systems offer an ideal solution for the online monitoring of plastics.
We also manufacture advanced systems for environmental protection (e.g., dust monitors) and for the monitoring and detection of radioactive contamination—such as the SMS contamination monitoring system and gamma/neutron dosimetry and radiometric gates.
