Richard Mecredy, the Irish retired cyclist came up with the idea for a new team game. In 1891 he presented his idea to other cyclists. The 6-people teams played matches on regular, grass polo fields. Despite the fact that the number of cyclists was pretty limited at that time and it was hard to use of the bicycles of the day, the game was spectacular enough to be put forward as a potential Olympic Games discipline in 1908. Unfortunately the 1st World War broke out and the game was forgotten for almost 90 years

In June 2008 there were about 50 cities where people played bike polo was, in August 2010 this number increased to 220. The number of hardcourt bike polo players is unknown; however assessments hold it that there are about 4,600 regular players all around the world with additional 20,000 irregular players. First hardcourt bike polo matches held in Poland by couriers who had brought the game in from the 2004 Basel Europe’s Championship. And Poland’s national championship brings together a few dozens of teams.

The Kielce bicycle fair join the game. From 3rd to 5th October Targi Kielce will be the venue for bicycle polo games. Anyone who wishes to try their hand at it is more than welcome to join.
