BARTH Präzisionstechnik Expands European Ammunition Production Capacity: German company joins MSPO 2026

22 July 2026
Surging demand for artillery ammunition is driving European manufacturers to scale up their production capacity aggressively. Among them is the German company BARTH Präzisionstechnik, which will showcase solutions for the ammunition industry – including manufacturing artillery and mortar shell bodies – at the International Defence Industry Exhibition.

The family-owned business from Baden-Württemberg has specialised in precision metalworking for over five decades. In recent years, it has been building its expertise in the defence sector, establishing itself as a series manufacturer of ammunition bodies in calibres ranging from 82 to 155. BARTH collaborates with clients across NATO member states and, according to company reports, has already delivered over 150,000 ammunition bodies to Ukraine.

A major key strength of the company lies in its complete control over the manufacturing process. The entire production cycle – from casting and machining to testing, painting, and preparing the component for final assembly – is carried out in Germany. The firm also highlights the expansion of its European production footprint as a viable alternative supply source for defence sector clients.

BARTH is consistently boosting its manufacturing capacity. The plant currently produces around 2,000 shell bodies per week, with plans to triple output to 6,000 units weekly from early 2027. In parallel, the company is undergoing the AQAP 2110 certification process, conducting ballistic testing, and advancing projects supported by EU and federal funding.

At this year’s MSPO, the company will showcase an offering tailored to ammunition manufacturers and industrial partners seeking proven suppliers of components for modern artillery systems.
