Description
In the area of systems, Navantia has a specific division, Navantia Sistemas, center of excellence for the design, development and integration of complex systems of high technology, giving an added value as systems supplier, that differences Navantia from the rest of the traditional shipyards. It defines, develops, produces and integrates the Combat Systems for the naval units that Navantia builds, is responsible for the development of the Command and Control Systems, Communication Systems and Integrated Platform Management Systems, and it is working, as well, with the new models of support to the life cycle.
Navantia, with extensive experience and capabilities in international naval projects, is committed to technological excellence and innovation, as well as the cooperation with various countries, which strengthens its position as a leader in the defense industry.
Navantia has arrived to MSPO presenting the S-80 submarine, the most innovative conventional submarine for NATO Navies
This submarine is also the most adaptable to Polish Navy ORKA program in terms of capabilities, technology and timing schedule.
The S-80 class submarine, designed and built by the Spanish shipyard Navantia, is the only proposal equipped with a third generation AIP. This unique system break the diving endurance limitation of former generation AIPs by embarking bioethanol-instead pure Hydrogen stored in heavy Metal Hydrides- to dramatically increase energy density onboard and avoid the complexity of managing gaseous Hydrogen. Plus, the reforming to produce Hydrogen with bioethanol is known to be more durable and robust.
Navantia will showcase its capabilities in Hall 5, Stand A12

It is a highly automated submarine, and thanks to a state-of-the-art platform control system developed by Navantia Sistemas, it can be operated by a reduced crew (32 sailors plus 8 additional berths for embarked personnel).
It can reach submerged speeds in excess of 19 knots and dive to depths greater than 300 metres. The vessel is approximately 80 metres long, 7 metres in diameter, and has a submerged displacement of around 3,000 tonnes.
It is also equipped with a combat system developed by Navantia Sistemas in collaboration with the U.S. company Lockheed Martin. Uniquely among conventional submarines of its class within NATO and the EU, it is capable of launching tactical land-attack missiles.
