The Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation - State Research Institute (IUNG-PIB)
is a research and development unit acting under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. This institution refers to the rich tradition of the Puławy Centre of Agricultural Sciences, which dates back to 1862.
The main fields of scientific activity are soil science, fertilisation, soil cultivation, cultivation of cereals and fodder crops, breeding and cultivation of hops and tobacco, issues of phytochemistry and agricultural microbiology, evaluation of various farming systems, weed control in yields, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, bioeconomy.
In 2005, IUNG obtained the status of a state research institute. The Institute has
a modern research infrastructure, and in 2015, the Innovation and Scientific Center
for Agricultural Research – INCBR in Puławy was put into use.
