AI help during mass? Artificial intelligence can even be used in the Church
Artificial intelligence is increasingly entering various areas of life, including the parish. AI helps you prepare texts, analyse documents, create information materials and organise your daily work. According to Paweł Horubała, a parish technology expert from Parafio, the question isn't whether AI will replace priests. "We should rather ask which tasks can be delegated to technology so that priests have more time for people," he emphasised.
The speaker emphasised that there are areas that artificial intelligence will never take over. AI does not know the taste of prayer, does not have the experience of faith and will not replace the pastoral relationship. No chatbot will visit a sick person or listen to a human during confession, he said.
At the same time, new tools can be a great support for the parish's daily work. AI can prepare drafts of announcements, social media posts, and newsletters. It also helps you analyse extensive church documents, find the information you need, and prepare summaries.
Systems supporting the organisation of work in parish offices are also playing an increasingly important role. Among other things, they enable electronic Mass intention requests, streamline communication with the faithful, and help manage the event calendar. "In parishes using our application to request intentions, up to half of the faithful already choose this method of communication, and in some communities, this percentage reaches over 70 per cent," said Paweł Horubała.
The conference also showed how artificial intelligence can support the creation of graphics, posters and materials promoting parish events. AI tools allow you to prepare such materials faster and without specialised graphic knowledge.
The most important question, however, remains what to do with the time saved thanks to technology.
– Tools reflect time. They do not replace people. If we use them well, we can devote more energy to what is most important in pastoral care: talking to people, visiting the sick, meeting with young people, or building community, concluded Paweł Horubała.
The Sacroexpo in Kielce is full of both modern solutions and traditional products for the Church and the faithful. There is still time to get to know them on Wednesday, 17 June.
