SMC was founded in Spresiano, Treviso, northern Italy, based on more than 20 years of experience in the production of boilers and mechanical joinery of its three co-founders. Initially, production consisted of building custom-made machines for the chemical, petrochemical and agri-food industries. The company successively strengthened its know-how and expanded the research and development staff necessary to achieve new technological goals. Intensive research and development focused on the use of microwaves. In 2005, SMC applied for an MWD industrial patent for a machine for processing pellets and plastic chips. Over the years, the company has obtained several other important polymer patents.

MWD is a device that combines the functions of crystallization and drying (up to 30-40 ppm).
The MWD drying system works on the principle of air heating and microwave drying.
The mechanical structure is properly oversized to avoid unnecessary downtime. The rotational speed of the main shaft is so low that wear is reduced to a minimum. The chamber and mechanical components are made of heavy gauge stainless steel.
Commercial components are standard products of major brands that are easy to find on the market:

No molecular sieve, so a constant process not related to saturation of the sieve and no need to replace it. Remote assistance available as a standard feature already included in the device; an Ethernet connection is required. Microwave lamps have a long service life (up to 20,000 h) because they do not come into contact with the material, process air and dust.
