NECROEXPO features a meeting with the writer

04 june 2022
We are all young and healthy, and thus we don't have to think about death and, obviously about our own funeral. Or should we? A meeting with Małgorzata Węglarz, author of the book "Everything You Should Know Before You Die - The funeral industry's secrets" was the place to seek the answer to this question.

The death of a loved one means a lot of pain, but also a multitude of formalities. A statistical Pole has lost a parent, spouse or child does not realize how many questions need answering at a funeral home. An urn or a coffin? A secular ceremony or church service? Modestly or lavish? Małgorzata Węglarz's book encourages you to talk to your family members about death and funeral-related issues. This talk is not designed to make them worry mode, when facing this really difficult moment. As the author emphasizes, such conversation takes place once inly and should contain specific hints. There is no right time for such a discussion, no age that predestines people to talk about own death and funeral; despite this fact, we should have to talk it over for the good of our loved ones.

You can also read about superstitions and beliefs related to burials,  the old ones and those used until today. As the author says, people still cultivate old traditions in rural areas,  in larger cities, this happens less often, although even here, mourners cover the mirrors with black cloth or turn mirrors facing against the wall. All mirror-like objects such as puddles and other liquid stains are also removed. Even television sets, which can cause reflections are covered. The custom relates to the home, but also to the yard,  because if a mirror reflects the deceased, death will not leave the place for a long time.

The book "Everything you need to know before you die. The funeral industry's secrets" also instructs what to pay attention to when it comes to a funeral home matters, what unfair practices we may sometimes encounter.

- This is a book for an ordinary Mr Smith - says the writer - everyone should read it. You could meet Małgorzata Węglarz on the second day NECROEXPO Funeral and Cemetery Fair.
