Interview with Joanna Marcjan. The June's Slavic B2Beauty in the limelight

12 may 2022
Joanna Marcjan - Deputy Director of the Trade Fair Department at Targi Kielce, spoke about the cosmetics industry, the beauty market's development, cooperation with foreign distributors and the value offered by Slavic B2Beauty, contracting expo held in June.

On 21 and 22 June at Targi Kielce - this is when SLAVIC B2BEAUTY, i.e. Poland's first contracting event for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry, is held. Where did you get the idea come to attract producers and buyers from all over the world so that they all convene in Kielce?

Joanna Marcjan Deputy Director for Trade Fairs Department:   The cosmetics industry, one of the booming sectors of the economy;  the beauty market's projected global growth until 2023 is EUR 544.7 billion. Highly developed countries' consumers demonstrate great interest in natural products manufactured in eastern countries; such products are famous for their top quality.  Not only have natural cosmetics conquered the hearts of Poles, but also storm-entered foreign markets, especially those in Western countries. Hence the idea to create a space for Slavic products to have a unique chance to gain publicity and reach new markets. Targi Kielce is a great place to host this type of event; our centre specialises in the B2B events. The Targi Kielce's location allows us to serve visitors from all over the world.

We look forward to seeing you - save the date for the new expo; join us for the SLAVIC B2BEAUTY.

The cosmetics sector analyses demonstrate an avid interest and steady sales increase in recent years. Is this tendency also noticeable in Poland?

JM:  In 2021, the global cosmetics market's revenues increased by over USD 8 billion year-on-year bases and reached USD 80.74 billion. According to the Statista Consumer Market Outlook estimates, this year revenues will exceed USD 100 billion, and in 2026 will reach the value of approximately USD 131 billion per year. These data are also reflected in our domestic cosmetics market. The domestic market exports have been on an upward trend for many years. In 2019, Germany and the United Kingdom were the main export markets for Poland. A year later, Kazakhstan was among the top importers of Polish cosmetic products, and Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Moldova and Austria recorded a several dozen per cent increase in sales of cosmetics produced in Poland.

Why are we experiencing a specific boom in body care cosmetics right now?

JM:  The cosmetics market is booming. This sector is one of the fastest-growing consumer markets, particularly driven by the skincare segment. The strong growth is mainly fuelled by the generational change as well as social media and e-Commerce, which influence purchasing behaviour, as trends from all corners of the world disseminate quickly and change daily skincare routines. As a result, brands introduce new products, which attract new customers. It is worth remembering that cosmetics and pharmaceuticals with pure ingredients and natural content are in great demand. That is why we have invited producers who are inspired by nature and use natural resources such as sulphides, clays, herbs and other minerals.

Young consumers are increasingly aware of body care cosmetics' properties; they thoroughly analyse cosmetics composition. Are ecological aspects important for end customers? Will representatives of eco-cosmetics sector also join the SLAVIC B2Beauty?

JM:  We all love natural, ecological cosmetics,  health, physical and mental wellbeing are extremely important to us. Ecological cosmetics offer a variety of combinations of plant extracts for extraordinary care results. Of course, you will be able to get an insight at the SLAVBIC B2BEAUTY.

What companies will showcase their portfolio at June's Expo staged in the capital of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains?

JM:  Polish and foreign producers join our event,  including the oldest Polish cosmetic company - MIRACULUM, which produces iconic fragrances and new body, face and make-up care products.   One of the largest Polish producers of fragrance cosmetics, i.e. URODA POLSKA and many other brands which offer natural and organic cosmetics and oriental perfumes. A plethora of companies have confirmed their presence,  including foreign producers and companies from the pharmaceutical industry which produce medicines, supplements, dermo-cosmetics and emollients.

Targi Kielce is not the only entity involved in the event's organisation -  is the external partners' help crucial?

JM:  Without our partners' support, it would not have been possible to create this event, bearing in mind that this is a truly international convention,  thus, the Polish Union of the Cosmetics Industry is our strategic and knowledge partner. Entering the markets of such countries as Malaysia, Tunisia, Morocco, Qatar, and Kazakhstan would not be possible without the support of our partners, including: Polish-Balkan Agency for Economic Cooperation, Beijing Heliview Int'l Exhibition Co. Ltd, Qatar-Poland Business Council, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Uzbekistan, Polish-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, MIDAgroup, Direction France, Polish-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Poland - Asia, PAIH Foreign Offices - Malaysia, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and Dubai. Please forgive me if I have forgotten to mention any names, but there is a plethora of partners. We are truly impressed by the positive response and concrete actions of our partners. Therefore, I would like to use this opportunity and thank them for their help and support.

What countries can we expect to see on 21 and 22 June at Targi Kielce?

JM:  The cooperation with the partners I listed earlier results in bringing in buyers and associations; they all come from such countries as: Malaysia, Tunisia, Morocco, the Czech Republic, Romania, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Israel, New Zealand, Spain, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Algeria. The event has an online component where we network with contractors from China. The list of countries whose representatives take part in the June contracting sessions keeps growing,  at the moment, we anticipate that about 60 buyers will appear at Targi Kielce.

The beauty sector's meetings attended by industry representatives are organised in Poland . Have producers had the opportunity to meet the world's largest buyers and distributors in the one-stop-shop model so far?

JM:  B2B meetings are based on the manufacturer's preferences - you decide who to meet with. This is a huge competitive advantage of our convention,  as the participants come to us for pre-arranged meetings with reliable traders from all over the world. Our clients represent major retail chains; our access is possible thanks to the long-term cooperation of Targi Kielce with Chambers of Industry and Associations. We share experience and mutual trust. Business meetings and talks will take place in the elegant Targi Kielce Congress Centre's venue. Each participant receives a meeting schedule. They are assigned a place to hold talks in. A large dose of knowledge, as well as the opportunity to talk to clients behind the scenes during the evening business dinner, is yet another, huge competitive advantage. All these elements make the SlavicB2Beuty a unique event.

Is the list of producers and distributors already closed, or can companies still register for the event?

JM:  Companies that would like to take part in the event may register until 15 May  2022; the same rule applies to buyers whose list is also constantly updated. There are fewer and fewer places, but those who decide to spend these two days in Targi Kielce in an international milieu will certainly not regret their decision. I am convinced of it.

So there is nothing left for us to do but invite you to join us in the Targi Kielce Congress Centre on 21 and 22 June 2022 for the first cosmetic and pharmacological industry contracting expo in Poland?

JM:  Feel invited and save the date. We look forward to seeing you in Targi Kielce!
