28 april 2020
Last year was a record-breaking one for the solar industry. According to globenergia.pl, small home solar power plants enjoyed the greatest interest not to mention the fact that more and more companies are into their own electricity production. Attractive financing forms such provide extra incentives. Leasing is undoubtedly one of such forms. Solar installation was one of the most popular topics of this year's the ENEX / ENEX New Energy expos.

Two options to choose from

When choosing leasing as a form of financing to make use of t solar installation, there are two options available, i.e. operational leasing or financial leasing.

Operating lease  - an investor is offered the possibility to use of a solar installation in exchange for fees, i.e. leasing instalments. The main benefit - no large financial outlays required for the start.  Depreciation is 10% for solar installations, and the lease-contract duration - minimum 4 years.  It is worth noting that depreciation remains with the leasing company, and the installation itself remains the property of the lessor.

Important! The customer must provide the application and financial documents which cover the entire previous and current financial year.

Financial leasing

Financial leasing requires a much larger initial investment, which includes the cost of the first instalment plus VAT applicable, calculated from the total sum.  The leased installation must be included in the buyer's fixed assets register,  depreciation remains with the lessee, who becomes the owner of the installation after paying the last instalment.
IMPORTANT AND WORTH NOTING!   It is possible to recover VAT in the form of a one-off refund from the Tax Office or to settle it as part of ongoing operations settlement.

Simplified scheme for PV installations

In the case of a solar installation financing with the value which does not exceed 100,000 PLN net, the lessee can count on simplified formalities scheme.  It only becomes necessary to complete the application and the asset declaration.  The accelerated procedure is 1-4 days.

Leasing - an example

The globenergia.pl  portal  offers and example to illustrate the benefits.

An industrial processing sector company resolved to have a solar installation.  Having consulted a contractor, a 27 kW installation was required.

The cost of such an investment -  PLN 100,230 (net 100,000). The investor opted for the operating leasing option. In addition, it had available funds and decided to pay its own 28% initial payment.  With a repayment period of 5 years, the instalments scheme is as follows:

Installation costs Lessee's own contribution First instalment Other instalments
100 230 PLN 28% 28 450 PLN 59 x 1 455 PLN
